Our middle school is the bridge between elementary and high school. We believe that the middle-school years are very important. Not only do our teachers understand this, they also understand the needs of adolescents developing deeper spiritual and intellectual maturity.
Students partner with teachers to analyze, explore and develop well-formed viewpoints on cultural and biblical topics. Through discussion-based classes, students discover wisdom in the ideas of others. Our program offers students the opportunity to be strengthened through critical reflection and dedicated participation in small classes.
The growth and development of our adolescent students is very important to us. The unique needs of rapidly developing middle school students present a variety of challenges. Middle school students are at a crucial point in their lives, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Our goal: help our middle school students develop a positive self-image. ACS encourages the exploration of personal growth, spiritual reflection and academic achievement by offering the following opportunities:
- Team-building field trips
- 8th-grade dinner, facilitated by the 7th-grade students
We believe that learning should be a joyful pursuit; we also believe it should be challenging. During the middle school years, children are beginning the challenge of thinking independently and often develop a propensity for argument. ACS teaches our middle school students the study of formal logic, helping them understand the fundamentals of a good argument. This focus is evident throughout the entire curriculum, which includes:
- Logic I and II
- Public speaking
Our middle school program functions on the belief that students should constantly be developing an appreciation for learning. By offering a program that any and every student can enter, our middle school students expand their capacity for discerning between truth and falsehood. This program includes:
- Departmentalized instruction in academic subjects
- Mission projects fostering leadership based on a love of service and outreach
- Advanced math track
- Daily devotions
- Weekly chapel
- Argument and reasoning-based discussion
- Development and testing of hypotheses
