| (Succasunna, NJ) – The American Christian School’s (ACS) sixth grade class took on a service project to help a little girl with Trisomy 18, by raising money to purchase a sleep safety bed. In one week’s time they raised $3000.00. The sixth grade class will be having a check presentation ceremony on April 14, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. at the school, to present the funds they raised to this special needs girl and her mother. ACS is a non-profit school in existence for over 45 years located in Succasunna, NJ. The school, known for its use of the highly acclaimed ‘Classical Curriculum’, offers a strong Christian environment for pre-school through 8th grade. ACS will be expanding to include a high school this fall, beginning with 9th grade. The school is also very focused on community service and has every grade level in the school responsible for choosing a service project they follow through graduation. The ACS sixth grade decided to serve Aniella Aragona of Andover Township, NJ. Four-year old Aniella was born with Trisomy 18, an extremely rare genetic defect caused by the compounding of a third #18 chromosome to the standard pair. After Aniella’s birth she was sent home not expected to live beyond her first few days. Aniella was born prematurely with Full Trisomy 18, also known as Edward’s Syndrome. At birth, she weighed less than 4 pounds. She has numerous medical problems, has endured many surgeries and has been weighed down by many complications in her life. Her special needs require her to have some specialized equipment for her survival. One piece of equipment that Aniella is in need of is a specialized sleep safety bed. The bed costs $8000.00, and insurance will not help with the cost. When the sixth grade class heard this story, they decided to take action. The $3000 was raised by donations. In addition, the class also sold Tupperware, which helped in the raising of another nine hundred dollars. The sixth grade class will help Aniella’s mother, Susan Aragona, with an upcoming spaghetti dinner to continue raising the needed funds for this safety bed. The dinner will be an “all you can eat” pasta dinner with bread, butter, drinks and desserts. The evening will include a Tricky Tray. It will be held on May 16, 2010 from 4pm till 7pm at The Barn at Hillside Park, in Newton, NJ. The cost will be $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child. Advance tickets are being sold by calling Susan Arogona at 973-600-0554. The ACS sixth grade invites you out to our upcoming check presentation where you will be able to meet the class, as well as Aniella and her mother. We also invite you out to the pasta dinner in May to help us raise the remaining monies needed for this very special little girl, who is a miracle, as less than 10 percent of children with Trisomy 18 ever survive after their first birthday. Aniella turns five in May.
