Middle School: A Time to Grow in Faith, Wisdom, and Character
The middle school years are a season of remarkable growth. Students are developing rapidly, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually…and they are beginning to think more deeply about who they are, what they believe, and how they will live out those beliefs.
At American Christian School, we believe these years are about more than preparing students academically for high school. They are an important season of spiritual formation.
Our middle school teachers understand that students at this age need both guidance and growing independence. They need adults who will challenge them to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, develop good habits, and increasingly take ownership of their faith.
Through small classes, meaningful relationships, biblical discipleship, and a challenging classical curriculum, ACS Middle School students are encouraged to grow in faith, wisdom, character, and confidence.
Growing in Faith
Middle school is often a time when students begin to move from simply knowing what their parents or teachers believe to asking, “What do I believe, and why?”
At ACS, we welcome those questions. Students are encouraged to think carefully about Scripture, engage in thoughtful discussion, and connect their faith to the world around them. Our goal is not simply to give students answers, but to help them develop a biblical foundation from which they can thoughtfully evaluate ideas, make wise decisions, and live faithfully.
Spiritual growth is woven throughout the middle school experience. Through biblical instruction, chapel, daily devotions, prayer, service, and conversations with teachers, students are continually reminded that their faith is not separate from their education – it is at the center of it.
We want our students to graduate from middle school with a growing understanding that following Christ shapes how they think, how they treat others, how they lead, and how they live.
Student Experiences
ACS encourages students to explore personal growth, spiritual reflection, leadership, and the world beyond the classroom.
- Chapel and daily devotion provide regular opportunities for worship, prayer, biblical teaching, and spiritual reflection.
- Bible instruction challenges students to engage more deeply with Scripture and consider how biblical truth applies to everyday life.
- Community service and outreach help students put their faith into action by serving others with humility and compassion.
- Field trips and overnight experiences give students opportunities to build friendships, develop independence, work as a team, and experience learning beyond the classroom.

- Leadership opportunities encourage students to take increasing ownership of their responsibilities and use their gifts to serve others.
A Place to Ask Questions and Think Deeply
As students enter adolescence, their ability to reason, analyze, question, and debate develops rapidly. We believe this is something to encourage, not something to fear.
ACS provides an environment where students can ask questions, wrestle with ideas, and learn to defend their conclusions thoughtfully and respectfully.
Through two years of in-depth Logic, students learn the fundamentals of rational thinking and sound argumentation. These skills extend far beyond the Logic classroom. Students learn to recognize assumptions, evaluate evidence, identify faulty reasoning, communicate clearly, and engage respectfully with ideas that may differ from their own.
This intellectual development is grounded in a Christian worldview. We want students who can think critically without losing their faith-and who understand that faith and thoughtful inquiry are not enemies.

Known, Challenged, and Encouraged
Middle school students need teachers who recognize that every student is different. Some are ready to take on greater responsibility while others still need significant guidance and encouragement.
Our small classes allow teachers to know their students well and provide the individual attention that is especially valuable during these formative years.
Students are challenged academically while being encouraged personally and spiritually. Teachers have the opportunity to notice when a student is struggling, celebrate when a student succeeds, and speak truth into the everyday moments that shape character.
At ACS, we want middle school students to know that they are known, loved, challenged, and called to grow.
Developing Character and Leadership
Character does not develop by accident. Middle school students need opportunities to practice responsibility, perseverance, humility, integrity, and leadership.
Our W.H.I.M. Program-Work Ethic, Humility, Integrity, and Maturity– provides a framework for intentionally developing these qualities.
Students have opportunities to practice leadership not simply by being placed in positions of authority, but by learning that true leadership begins with service.
Service projects, community outreach, athletics, competitions, classroom responsibilities, and group experiences all provide opportunities for students to learn how to work with others, respond to challenges, and use their abilities for the benefit of those around them.

Preparing Students for What Comes Next
Our goal is not simply to help students get through middle school. We want these years to prepare them for the young men and women they are becoming.
By the end of middle school, students should be increasingly prepared to take responsibility for their learning, articulate what they believe, think critically about the world around them, communicate with confidence, serve others, and make wise choices.
Most importantly, we want them to continue growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Middle school is a time of transition…but it is also a tremendous opportunity. At ACS, we seek to make these years a time when students grow in faith, wisdom, character, and confidence as they prepare for high school and beyond.
